Vocalocity
Jason Tesch

Glue, duct tape, cement, staples, gum, and whatever other kind of bonding agent that works is what Jason is to Vocalocity. He keeps them together. He keeps them on task. He keeps the dream alive. His raspy tenor voice and his musical vision add a nice layer of coolness to Vocalocity’s riveting repertoire. Whether singing lead vocals or belting back-up chords, Jason is sure to add the musical color needed for delectable a cappella tunes.

Do you play any instruments (besides voice)?

I play the piano, drums, and a little bit of the guitar. Drums are my favorite instrument to play; I really miss my drum set sometimes. In the 3 drum sets I have had my favorite was my blue Yamaha drum set. I wish I had more time to dedicate to playing the piano. When the CD is done I think I will practice more. I also play the pitch pipe once in awhile when James lets me.

When and how did you get involved with Vocalocity?

I was going to school at Weber State and saw an ad. I called the number and took my brother Jake with me to the audition. I remember singing “Great Balls of Fire” in Todd’s living room (he was the leader of the a cappella group called “Tongue-Tied”). Jake and I wowed the guys in the group at the audition and made the group Tongue-tied which later became Vocalocity.

Why is the group called Vocalocity?

I believe Jake is the visionary behind the name Vocalocity. I remember reading one of the comments from a judge at Harmony Sweepstakes. He said that we had an “Electric sound,” so Jake thought it would be a good idea to put the words “Vocal” & “Electricity” together. That’s how the group got its name. Maybe it was Jake that had that idea or maybe it was me. I can’t remember if it was him or me who had the idea. You will have to ask Jake.

How has your theater and choral training affected the way you perform?

I think it has affected the way I perform big time. When I am performing I always think about the things I learned. I can hear my teachers in my head telling me what I should and shouldn’t do when I perform

Who are some of your favorite artist?

I admit that I am a big time Michael Jackson Fan. I think that he is the greatest performer of all time. No one even compares. My next favorite artist would be the Dave Matthews Band. Every one of them can really play. I love all of their music and have been to his concert 4 times. I wish I could have seen Michael Jackson perform live.

What are you most looking forward to for the remainder of the year?

Finishing the CD, FINALLY! My wife is looking forward to that too. The whole group has gone through a lot to put “Harmonic Fuel” together and it will help Vocalocity get to the next level. I also love singing at Christmas and I think Vocalocity will be pretty busy in December

What is the most rewarding part about being in Vocalocity?

Performing with the guys in Vocalocity is probably the most rewarding part for me. They are all my close friends. The only bad thing is when we all get together all we talk about is Vocalocity. We should get together and play basketball or talk about the Utah Jazz or something else once in awhile.
