Jake Tesch

Like icing on a melodious cake, Jake tops the group off with his sweet and splendid sound. His fierce sense of fashion and style naturally bleeds into his sky-high vocals creating an explosion of brilliance. The founding father of Vocalocity’s fashion, Jake has a keen eye for detail. If you’re thinking: "I like that tie" or "nice jeans" about any Vocalocity attire, he probably hand picked it himself. Passionate for all things a cappella, he propels Vocalocity forward with an attitude for perfection settling for nothing less.

Get to know Jake

What is your most embarrassing moment you've ever had in Vocalocity?

We had been driving for about six hours to get to one of our performances and when we arrived we had very little time to sound check and get our performance attire on. I was almost ready when the emcee announced us, “Give it up for Vocalocity!” I was frantically getting dressed and then I couldn’t find my shoes anywhere! So James, Ryan, Jason said to perform without them. “No one will even notice,” they said. After the show 4 or 5 people came up to me asking about my shoes! Good times! The guys don’t know this but I bring an extra pair of shoes with me to every show now!

Favorite song that's playing on the radio?

I actually have two: "Hey Soul Sister" by Train and "King of Anything" by Sara Bareilles. They are just awesome songs!

How has your theater and choral training affected the way you perform?

Being involved with theater and choir over the years has made me realize that performing is all about the production! Whether it be choreography, what your wearing, when and where to talk...everything plays it's role in presenting a quality show to the audience that they'll be thinking and talking about for days after the lights go out!

Do you have any special vocal warmup techniques?

Not really. I know I probably should. I think it's all mental for me. I just do my best to get into the performing groove.

What are you most looking forward to for the remainder of the year?

Well besides the album coming out, I really look forward to our Christmas season. It's always fun singing our Christmas songs and performing during the holiday's. It's just awesome. I don't know how to describe it!

What is the most rewarding part about being in Vocalocity?

I'd hate to say I do it just for the applauses, and while that's a big part of it, you get to meet a lot of really cool people and see how your music affects them and that is very rewarding!  Also, the other guys in the group have become my best friends. We've been at this for a while now, and it's fun to have your four best friends right there with you living out your dreams!

How has being in an a cappella performing group affected your family?

My family is very supportive. I would say most of the time you would find my wife and three boys out their in the audience. For me, I love having my boys Davis, Max, and little Benson come to our performances. I think they're really proud of their dad. I hope that they can see me living out my dreams and that they'll realize that they can live out their dreams too! Davis loves coming on stage after our shows and singing our songs with us! What's funny is he is only four years old and he knows almost all of our songs!
